One of my only childhood birthday parties was when I was turning fifteen. I remember sitting downstairs on our couch, opening presents wearing some sort of plastic tiara.
I received the standard gifts:
picture frames, body lotions, bath beads, Claire's jewelry...
But then, I opened this baby.
It was from my new friend Taryn. I remember we had just started to be really close and I was so excited she accepted my invitation to my party. She got me one of the most memorable birthday presents.
And I just found it in my mom's guest bathroom.
If you don't know, this is one of those hair smoothing, rotating brushes that used to be all the rage on late night infomercials. I loved this thing. If you look close, you can probably see all the loose hair tangled in it from tons of use. (that's kinda gross so on second thought, don't look.)
Not only did she think of such a thoughtful gift (because I was really into doing hair at that age), but she had to have ordered well before she knew I was having a birthday party. Which is a big deal at that age because the only reason you give a gift is if there is a partay involved, right?
I should have known at that moment she was going to be one of the most amazing and thoughtful friends.
And, I get to see her in exactly nine days for her brother's wedding.
Maybe I'll bring this baby since I'm doing her hair...
